Art

In Upper School art we explore many different types of art mediums. We work with a wide range of supplies and materials. We explore the importance of God in today’s art, as well as the origins and history of art.  The elements of art  along with the principles of design, are also taught.

Throughout the art program there will be a heavy emphasis on clay. Students will learn to throw pots on the wheel and learn many different type of pottery techniques. Some sculpture will be included.

Other projects will consist of stained glass, lampworking, watercolor, paper making along with paper sculpture, basic jewelry, mosaics, frescos, fabric collage, printmaking and basic drawing.

Art history will be integrated around the different types of art projects being taught. Many different type of artists will be studied and explored.

Art class for Kindergarten through 5th grade is a time of creativity and exploration.  Students will work with a wide range of materials as they are introduced to the elements of art and principles of design.  From drawing and painting to working with fiber and clay, students will see beauty in God’s world as they complete a variety of projects.  Students will also be introduced to different artists along their journey.

Highlights include: “Art by Me” in the fall, in which students create original artwork to be transformed into products for purchase and “A Night in the Arts” in the spring, in which each student will have a piece of their work on display in a gallery type setting.  All students will make and bring home portfolios to house their artwork from the year.
