MusicTim Brewer is our Director of Bands. Beginner BandBeginner band starts assuming each student has no musical knowledge learning musical notation, and rudimentary music reading skills. After the students have reached necessary proficiency, the students begin with instruments. During the year the students learn simple exercises, scales, songs and sheet music. Beginner band students perform on the Christmas and Spring Concerts.
Intermediate BandIntermediate Band builds on skills that were learned in the first and possibly second year of instruction. Emphasis is placed on learning new techniques, rhythm patterns, tone development, and intermediate level sheet music. More emphasis is placed on sheet music in the second semester. Also, the students perform for a Christmas and a Spring Concert and the district Concert Festival.
Wind EnsembleThis is the most advanced ensemble at Metrolina Christian Academy. An expansive range of more advanced literature is played in this ensemble. An exposure to many styles of music is given including jazz. Students will work on improving music reading ability and scale studies. Possible performances will include our own Christmas and Spring concerts, the Union County preview festival, basketball games, and the ACSI and district Concert Festival. This ensemble usually takes a large performance trip every other year.
Lower School Music
Music classes add depth to the lower school MCA education. It encourages students to dramatically improve their talents, but it also provides knowledge and experience. Visual and performing art courses offer students the opportunity to explore and discover the creative gifts which God has given them, and to share these gifts in significant ways. Music at MCA is a fun and exciting course. The student is lead through many aspects of the fundamentals of music theory, music history, ear training, instrumental music, drama, and choir. Opportunities are afforded each student to discover and develop their skills through two major musical productions a year as well as weekly chapel performances. The Lord gave His people music in order to better display the wonder and majesty of His glory. At MCA, we purpose to join efforts with Him in making the invisible Kingdom visible to all. We believe the arts constitute powerful ways of thinking and skilled ways of communicating Christ’s love to the world. Our goal is to build a fine arts program that continues to foster this kind of growth for His Kingdom spiritually and academically.
