Our Children's Spiritual Development
One of the greatest challenges that anyone faces in this lifetime is that of being a parent. I am convinced that we must intentionally plan for the spiritual development of our children. Josh McDowell, the author and apologetics expert, gave great insight to this when he declared: "While we need to be concerned with what our kids are tempted to do, we need to be more concerned with what our kids are led to believe."
As I have raised my girls, God has shown my wife and me over and over just how important it is to establish God's Word as the basis for truth in their lives. The importance of establishing truth and freedom from captivity cannot be overstated in our quest to raise Godly kids.
Colossians 2:8 tells us to "Be careful that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deceit based on human tradition, based on the elemental forces of this world, and not based on Christ." We have burglar alarms for our houses and cars but we also need to place a great emphasis on protecting our children from philosophies that may steal their belief system.
As a parent, it is easy for me to get consumed with how my kids are behaving or just their actions and not spend enough time on their belief system which shapes their values. This verse reminds me to continually invest God's truth into my kids' lives and as I do I will see their actions be more in line with what we are aiming for.
On another note, I am so excited to see the MCA community coming together to support our school. I have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of volunteer applicants and the interest shown in our parents' prayer ministry. I cannot begin to say thank you to all of our families for how you love, support, and pray for us. You are a blessing!
Finally, I ask that you begin to pray for our Upper School Spiritual Emphasis Week which begins Monday, September 17th. Speaker and evangelist Shawn McBride will be with us that week through Thursday. I also want to invite you to a combined event for FBCIT and MCA on Wednesday, September 19th at 6:30 p.m. in the church sanctuary. That night Christian artists Shane and Shane will be in concert and Shawn McBride will be speaking. I hope to see you there!
