Setting Goals for the New Year

January 07, 2013
By Rev. Rick Calloway

At the beginning of the year, so many of us make resolutions to make what we believe are much needed changes in our lives. Instead of making resolutions this time of year, I prefer to set goals for the year both personally and professionally. A few weeks ago, I began to pray and ask God what He would have me set as my goals for the year.

From that prayer, the Lord gave me a verse to use as one of His goals for me this year. The verse He gave me was Ephesians 6:10 which states "Be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might." What does that verse really mean? It means that in our minds and hearts that we know that He is omnipotent and all-powerful and that we choose to be strong in Him.

As I pondered this verse, God reminded me that so many times in my life I try to be strong in whom I am instead of relying on His strength and power to face the challenges of life. I realize that I am not able on my own to face the giants and challenges of this life but He is. My goal for 2013 is to seek to be strong in the Lord and the power of His might daily.

As I write this email, I am sure that some of you may be facing some giants today that may seem unstoppable. Allow me to give you two more verses to go with Ephesians 6:10 as you face your giants. Jeremiah 32:27 asks the questions: "Is there anything too hard for the Lord?"In addition, Ephesians 3:20 states "Now unto Him that is able to do exceedingly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us."I pray that the truth of these verses will penetrate your heart and encourage you today.
