You are Mine
Isaiah 43:1 But now, O Jacob, listen to the Lord who created you. O Israel, the one who formed you says, “Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine.”
I am so excited for the beginning of a brand new school year here at Metrolina. We have been busy preparing for the return of our students and praying for God to do amazing things on our campus this school year. As part of that preparation, we have sought God about what our focus and theme should be for this coming school year. God has led us to Isaiah 43:1 as the theme verse for this coming school year.
We live in a world where there is a lot of fear and uncertainty. We face physical struggles, financial struggles, emotional struggles, and so much more in our everyday lives. It would be very easy to become discouraged and disheartened on a regular basis. I love the assurance that Isaiah 43:1 provides when it declares: “Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine.”
Because of our great God, we do not have to be afraid or apprehensive about anything. This verse reminds us that God gave His precious Son as a ransom for us so that we can have this peace. When my children were little and would encounter times when they were afraid, they would come to me for security and protection from whatever was scaring them. I would do all I could to assure them that they were safe with me.
Isaiah 43:1 is giving us that same level of assurance I would give my children except that it is God who is giving this promise. He is telling us that we are His. God is reminding us that He has called us by name and that we are precious to Him and there is no need for us to be afraid. The great thing about this promise for believers is that it is unconditional. We all have sinned and messed up at times but God’s love and protection go beyond what we do. I love how Paul describes this in Romans 5:20 when he states: “Where sin abounded, grace did much more abound.”
My prayer is that we as a school will focus our efforts on communicating this truth to our students, our staff, and our families this school year. All of the verses in Isaiah 43 are filled with such great truth and promises for believers and we will endeavor to unpack all of it for the community of Metrolina this year.
I pray that whatever you may be facing today that you will be able to claim the truth of Isaiah 43 and rejoice that you are His! I pray that you will sense His love, His hope, and His presence!
I cannot wait to see all that the Lord has planned for our school this year.
