Two Great Places to Find Hope

December 05, 2014
By Rev. Rick Calloway

The world in which we live today can be a very frightening place. It seems as though we live in not only a time of economic uncertainty but also in an era that is filled with danger and terror. During times like these, it is easy for a lot of doubts to fill our hearts and minds. Where can we find real hope for the future? As believers, God has provided at least two great places to find true hope.

1. We Can Find Hope in His Word.

“You are my refuge and my shield; your word is my source of hope.” Psalm 119:14

“Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise.” Hebrews 10:23

These two verses are just two of many verses throughout Scripture where God promises to provide us hope and comfort in His Word.

2. We Can Find Hope Through the Presence of His Spirit

“When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer.” Psalm 94:19

“I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13

These two verses remind me of the times in my life when I have seen God give me joy, peace, comfort, and hope in those times of doubt. I pray that you will hold onto the truth of finding hope in difficult times through God’s Word and the indwelling of His Spirit. As you remember these places, I challenge you to use Psalm 43:5 to refresh your mindset as you face whatever difficulty that may be in your path.

Psalm 43:5 declares: “Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again— my Savior and my God!”

My prayer is that in times of doubt that we will allow God through His Word and His Spirit to do as the old song says and “put the joy, joy, joy, joy down in our hearts to stay.”
