Looking Forward

August 14, 2015
By Rev. Rick Calloway

School year 2015-2016 is just around the corner. I am so looking forward to all that God has planned for this school year. This is such an exciting time for us as a school and I want to share many of the things that are planned for this year.

To begin with, construction has begun on our new math and science building and it should be complete later in the fall. We are also busy planning for the implementation of our Phase Two building for the arts and hope that the funds will be ready to begin construction sometime this school year. This school year we will also begin planning for Phases Three and Four of the Limitless Building Campaign which will include more classrooms and a student life center.

Next, we have added several new electives for students in middle and high school. Vocal Music and Spanish are new additions to our middle school program.  In high school, we will continue to grow our dual and concurrent college course program in order to provide more college courses for our students to earn in high school. In addition, we will also be offering many new electives to our Bible curriculum for high school students. These options will allow students to choose courses that better fit their giftings and interests.

We will also work to strengthen this year our partnership with our online provider to offer our students more than 70 additional online courses in the sciences, technology, and various foreign languages.

Metrolina is also adding a new Director of School Security to our staff this fall. Bob Vandergrift, a retired Charlotte Mecklenburg police officer, will be utilizing his many years of law enforcement and school security experience to provide an additional layer of security for our students and staff.

Mrs. Mika Edwards will become one of our Guidance counselors working inside the guidance department. She will be a tremendous asset to our families as they prepare for academic success. Mrs. Edwards will also work with all high school students in planning their academic paths throughout their time in high school.

In addition, Mrs. Lisa Shields will be moving into a full time position as a Guidance counselor within our Guidance Department this fall. Her focus will continue to be to help students in finding their career path as well as college planning. Mrs. Shields will also be working to help train students in interviewing skills and other job-related pursuits.

Metrolina will be providing more tools to assist parents this fall in raising their children to be all that God has planned for them. We will be providing newsletters, blogs, and seminars that will be focused in areas such as how to handle bullying, how to help your kids navigate social media, and many other worldview topics that will help you in guiding your children through this difficult culture.

These are just a few of the improvements to our program this year. Will you join me in praying for our students and staff as we get ready to embark on another great school year!
