Encouragement in Athletics Blog

I love one-liners. Statements that make you think, motivate you to act, thus creating change.

Wal-Mart has a sign when you go in to their warehouse in Bentonville, Arkansas that states, “Today’s stock price is X, Tomorrow’s is up to you”. How hard we pursue a goal is up to us. How energetic you train, prepare and eventually play, is up to you.

I heard a man say, “If it’s meant to be, it’s up to me”. Theologically this can be challenged, however his desire is to use this one-liner to encourage each person to work hard. Individually, we are to do our part. We are to build Gods Kingdom with the strength, energy and talents that were given us.

  1. Lombardi once said, “Fatigue makes cowards of us all”. The teams I’ve coached needed to be in better shape because we weren’t always the most talented. Together, as one, we worked hard on executing and conditioning because when talent is better on the other side, our execution and conditioning must be better.

I’ve heard…Work as though it’s all up to you! Pray knowing it’s all up to God! There’s great truth in that one!

The Bible is full of verses that serve as motivators to us! This week, build unity…one verse at a time, one player at time, one practice at a time, one prayer at a time…”that work”, is up to you!
