LETTER FROM OUR UPPER SCHOOL PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the “Great Adventure,” the teenage years. Students enter Upper School as children and will leave a few years later as young adults. During these Upper School years, students will experience remarkable changes. These changes will affect every part of the student and their family, and set the course for the student’s future successes or struggles.

Students will change and grow tremendously over the next few years. Physically, they will grow as a result of God’s remarkable design of the human body where the proper environmental factors will unleash the potential God has placed inside of the student. God’s plan is for students not to only grow physically, but to also grow spiritually, mentally and emotionally, in a positive manner with a biblical foundation. According to God’s economy, there is tremendous potential for each individual. The problem is that sin destroys this potential as we are reminded in the Gospel of John; “The thief (Satan) does not come except to steal, to kill and to destroy, but I (Jesus) have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10) How we counter the influence of sin and Satan, and foster a Christ-centered life style will greatly affect the child’s future development.

Many factors will affect students’ development and them becoming the adults God desires them to be. But one of the primary factors will be the school they attend. Parents have many options when it comes to schooling. Parents must consider how the school their child attends will affect the student’s growth in not only the mental, but also the spiritual and the emotional. Metrolina Christian Academy is committed, not only to the mental growth of our students, but also the spiritual and emotional growth of the student. As a matter of fact, I do not believe it is possible to properly address any of these areas without addressing all of these areas. A student’s mental, spiritual and emotional growth are tied closely together. During the Upper School years, students need to be in an environment where they are given every opportunity to develop a biblical framework that will prepare them for life. At MCA, students will be taught that biblical framework. Our purpose is to develop this biblical framework by promoting the love of Jesus, pursuing academic excellence, and team-working with parents and churches to see students grow spiritually, mentally, and emotionally into the young adult that is ready to live a God honoring life.

I pray your family’s experience at MCA will be marked by a growing faith, academic excellence, and a spirit of teamwork that honors and glorifies God.

Training a generation to have a heart and mind for Him,
Danny McDowell
