MCA’s Lower School provides each child with opportunities to explore the world of ideas that God has created for them while being encouraged in a loving and Christ-centered atmosphere. Teachers are committed to understanding the design of each child so they can adequately prepare the instructional strategies to meet individual learning styles. Various teaching methods are implemented in classrooms that are lively and engaging to create an environment where learning is expected to be fun.

Lower School TK - 5th Grade Curriculum Overview


  • Metrolina Christian Academy’s Lower School division serves students in Transitional Kindergarten (TK: 5 years old as of December 31st) and Kindergarten (5 years old as of September 15th) through fifth grade.

  • TK – 3rd grade learn in self-contained classrooms while fourth and fifth grade are taught through a team-teaching design.

  • Average Class Size:

    • 1:16  (TK – K)

    • 1: 21 (1st – 5th)

    • TK – 2nd grade classrooms have teacher assistants supporting them throughout the day.

  • Special events that sprinkle fun and learning in the Lower School calendar are History Day, Thanksgiving Feast, A Walk Through Bethlehem, Grandparents’ Day, and Field Day to name just a few.

  • The Academic Services Program provides student support and enrichment opportunities.

  • The ACSI Edition of the TerraNova achievement test is administered in the spring of each year.
